Top 10: Ways To Boost Sexual Confidence

By David DeAngelo - Web Site: DoubleYourDating.com

Most guys lack confidence in their ability to physically turn on a woman and “rock her world” when it comes time to hit the sheets. A woman knows right away if she’s dealing with one of these “boy-men” and runs for the hills as soon as she realizes it. If you want to make sure she sees you as a Sexually Confident kind of guy — the kind of guy who can ignite throbbing sexual passions deep inside her — you need to become a master at giving women an incredible sexual experience. Here are 10 powerful tips to get you started.

Number 10 - Uncover the source of Sexual Confidence

Sexual Confidence comes as a result of knowing how to give a woman mind-blowing pleasure. It’s the confidence that the woman you’re with will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience with you. It’s knowing all the steps — from the first eye contact all the way to the “end game” — and knowing how to build ANTICIPATION at every step along the way. Start by practicing my “two steps forward, one step back” technique by escalating things, then backing off, then escalating further, then backing off again. The anticipation and arousal this creates will drive her INSANE. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Number 9 - Get out of the manipulation mindset

Guys are always curious about how to “trick” a girl into bed — what the magic words are, etc. I personally know a few guys who do this… and I can tell you it does NOT lead to fulfillment. Avoid this whole “manipulation mindset,” and stop trying to figure out what the magic bullets are to get a woman to do what you want in a dishonest way. It’s much better to work on becoming an interesting guy who knows what to do to build attraction in a natural, non-manipulative way. If what you’re doing feels wrong or unethical, stop it. There are better ways to get what you want.

Number 8 - Stop idealizing beautiful women

Most guys get fooled into believing that just because a woman is unusually attractive, she’s also usually honest and would never consider taking from you, cheating on you or lying to you. The reality is that people are never 100% “good” or 100% “bad.” There are situations where ANY person would lie, cheat, steal, or be disloyal. When you accept the reality that people are people, a beautiful woman is still human, and that the woman you feel strongly for is just as likely to be dishonest or disloyal as any other, you’ll take her off that pedestal you put her on. And that’s an important step toward achieving Sexual Confidence.

Like a virgin

Having sex for the first time after amnesia was like the real first time, but without Journey playing in the background.

Sex isn't about making a big first impression and then settling into a routine. It's about pleasure that grows more complex with each new encounter -- but don't feel compelled to try 20 different positions. If you find a mutual turn-on, return to it and see what happens.

First-time sex can be painful for a woman and additional lubrication can reduce her discomfort. Have a bottle open and ready next to your bed. You don't want to stop in the middle of kissing her earlobes or going down on her to extricate a KY bottle from its wrapping. In fact, you sometimes need a pair of small scissors to get the wrapping off. So do that before -- and make sure the condoms are also ready. Some of us slip our supplies under the pillow when nobody's looking.

If she's in pain the first time you have intercourse -- despite generous amounts of lubricant -- premature ejaculation is more than diplomatic. The awkwardness of first intercourse is real but overstated because first-time intercourse can be rather brief! To reduce discomfort when a man enters her for the first time, she can breathe slowly through her mouth into her abdomen. This is a relaxation technique for body and mind, used by non-virgins when challenged by a man's size or ardor.

Use a barrier (condom or diaphragm) to protect her cervix from exposure -- even if you're a virgin and unlikely to harbor an STD. Get into this healthy habit up front, not later -- no woman should expose her cervix during intercourse unless she is planning to get pregnant. Birth control is something you should discuss openly to prevent misunderstandings -- coyness has a role to play but not here. Find out how she feels about accidental pregnancy. Do not assume that she feels as you do. Two people, deeply attracted to each other, can disagree profoundly about things like pregnancy, abortion and marriage.

After two months at Northeastern, the "girl-on-girl" make-out session had become inevitable at parties, but Julie still hadn't kissed a woman herself. Then she and a female friend showed up at a party without the $5 cover charge, and she suddenly realized that girl-on-girl action could be a form of currency. "I said to the guy, 'What if we make out? Will you let us in for free?' He said, 'Yep, do it.' I knew it'd be something that [the guys] were into which would get us what we wanted -- to save $10."

Kissing girls started earlier for Alexandra, a 16-year-old high school junior in Bellingham, Wash., a town close to the Canadian border. In ninth grade, she says, at a party where the beer was scarce, two of her friends made out with each other for a beer. "The guys were cheering it on and encouraging it," she says. "I thought it was cool that [the girls] got all the attention, and the guys obviously liked it. I went up to them and was like, 'Wow, that was crazy!' They were like, 'Oh yeah, you've never done that before?'"

While same-sex hooking up among teens has been in the news lately -- kids who consider themselves questioning and talk about their sexuality as fluid have been splashed across the pages of major magazines and newspapers -- Alexandra (who has kissed six girls) and Julie (who has kissed 10), and the countless other young women like them, don't think of themselves as bisexual, or even "bi-curious." They're firmly straight, they say, but they'll kiss their friends as a performance for guys -- either for material gain, like free entry or alcohol, or to advertise that they're sexually open and adventurous. "A lot of the time, you're doing it to show off to the guy you like," says Alexandra. "They like it, so they're going to like you if you do it."

These women say it's no big deal to kiss another woman -- especially if alcohol has loosened inhibitions all around. Same-sex behavior is more accepted, particularly on campus, and proving that you're "cool enough" to kiss another girl without worrying that your peers will question your sexuality is an example of how open our sexual culture has become. But is this staged bisexuality really a testament to a type of hypersexualized girl power -- or a statement on how far gals will go to please a generation of guys weaned on online porn? And what does it mean to girls who are actually coming out as queer to see straight girls playing bi for male pleasure?

"When girls talk to me about kissing each other at parties, it's invariably in the context of boys chanting "Kiss, kiss!" says Sabrina Weill, former editor in chief of Seventeen and author of "The Real Truth About Teens and Sex." "There's no formal research that asks girls whether it's happening more now. However, anecdotally, it does seem to be talked about more." Precise numbers may not be available, but a well-publicized National Center for Health Statistics study released in September 2005 found that 10.6 percent of girls age 15-19 had had same-sex sexual experiences; the survey did not ask whether the conduct was a result of actual desire, though. In any event, girl-on-girl action seems to be no big deal for high school and college students, who shrug it off as standard party behavior. Alexandra says she sees it at "75 to 85 percent" of the parties she attends. Jay, a 17-year-old senior at a Manhattan high school, says he sees it at "every other party." Alexandra's friend Mikey, 19, also in Bellingham, says such action has been a party staple since he was 14. "Just about every party I go to or have, I see girls making out with each other," he says.

"It's definitely a good, well-worn, tried-and-true route to hooking up with a guy that you want," Julie says. "It's not giving him a lap dance and stripping on a pole for him, but it's showing him that you can be open, and if that's what he likes, that's what you'll do. Which makes him think you're better to sleep with than the 100 other girls in the room with you."

Sex, or chocolate?

It has been one hell of a long V-day -- several weeks long and counting, in fact. What with all those vagina monologues speaking their collective minds across the country -- and sometimes being rudely gagged with "hoohaa" -- well, it's enough to induce a dry spell. But maybe I'm just part of a disturbing undercurrent of women who studies show would rather get a new wardrobe, have a good dinner or even answer their cellphones than make mad, passionate, mind-expanding luv. (Who knows what other studies are on the way: sex vs. a leisurely toilet scrubbing? A chat with the tax accountant? An especially engrossing PTA meeting?)

But amid all the cheesy surveys and hand-wringing talk shows, there has been a bright spot in the discussion of lackadaisical libidos. Last week's review of the Joan Sewell memoir "I'd Rather Eat Chocolate: Learning to Love My Low Libido" (subscription required to read the full article) by Sandra Tsing Loh hit just the right notes of self-deprecating ennui and tart commentary.

Sewell argues that women's libido is an issue because as a society we've all bought into some generic notion of a "healthy sex life" -- modeled on keeping the male libido well served. "No one is trying to lower men's sex drives," Sewell writes. "I don't hear, 'Doctor, my sex drive is too high. Please, do something about it. I feel guilty and ashamed that I don't want less sex. It's killing my marriage.'"

Sewell considers the perspective that women naturally may have a lower libido than men as a result of their hormones -- a notion that may or may not have merit but that I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot speculum. Indeed, the wages of low libido for a man may be even more excruciating, as evidenced by a confessional from one guilt-wracked husband and Salon writer who took comfort in an American Medical Association study that found 15 percent of men ages 18 to 59 have low sexual desire.

Libido wars aside, it's worth looking at the ways sex has become a weird new kind of orthodoxy -- promoted as the solution to so many ills and even illnesses. I ran headlong into this reverse prudery a few years ago, months after having my first child, when a friend who happened to be a male Ph.D. in psychology was talking about another couple we knew and implied that because they weren't having sex multiple times a week, their relationship was as good as toast. When I told him that was no big deal, he seemed visibly concerned: Did I have sex three times a week? No? Twice a week? Say it isn't so! When I admitted that I wasn't keeping track, his face was filled with pity and something hovering between revolt and horror. This was a man who made his living supposedly helping people with their intimate relationships. Luckily, I knew he was a complete loser when it came to practicing what he preached, but had I been his patient and not his friend, his opinion might have convinced me that only regularly scheduled copulation would save my marriage from an early death.

At the time I was too sleep deprived and annoyed to get into it, but reading Tsing Loh, I suddenly know what I wish I'd said: "Even with all the massage oil and E-Zone handbooks in the world, sex is much too mysteriously volatile an activity for even loving men and women to have to have together, all the time ... Rather than trying to rate oneself on one's ability to hit regular marks on an abstract calendar, members of both sexes could well find this to be true liberation."

New York Times contains a column by John Tierney that attempts to answer the age-old question of why, exactly, people have sex. Warning: Anyone who is having sex purely "because I love my partner" or "because I wanted to produce the miracle of life" is living in an innocent world, blissfully unaware of the unromantic possibilities that I shall now paraphrase.

According to Tierney, who in turn is paraphrasing this article from the Archives of Sexual Behavior, there are at least 237 reasons that people have sex. They include, in no particular order, "to feel closer to God," "because I was drunk," or to "burn calories," "get rid of a headache," "fall asleep," "keep warm" or "change the topic of conversation."

Luckily the top reason was still "I was attracted to the person" -- and fun, love and emotional connections were also among the top reasons listed. But still, people. "It seemed like a good way to burn calories"? Can't we at least pretend to be a little bit romantic?

Tierney points out that while the list supports some stereotypes -- for instance, women are more likely than men to cite emotional reasons for having sex -- it contradicts others. Whereas women are more likely to be thought of as having sex to boost their social status or win raises and promotions, the study's findings "suggest that men do these things more than women," one of its authors reports. (Then again, Tierney reports that men have sex "because the opportunity presented itself" more often than women -- so who knows what their deeper motivations truly are.)

Personally, I think it's less important to understand the myriad reasons people might have for fornicating than it is to make sure that your partner's reasons match your own. In other words, if one of you is getting busy because you're too lazy to reach for an Advil, and the other is hoping for a spiritual connection with God, you're probably going to end up with headaches even the most powerful orgasm can't relieve.

But for those of you out there who are fascinated by the possibilities (and feel that 237 is not a long enough list), Tierney is encouraging readers to supply the 238th reason to have sex. Click on his Tierney Lab to participate -- but keep in mind that "because I wanted to have my comments posted on the New York Times' Web page" is not an appropriate reason to scromp.
